SOLD! 2009 KLR for Sale - Torrance CA SOLD!

I'm afraid this bike falls into the list of "horribly farkled" in as much as you couldn't put much more on it... luckily I think they are things that would be on the wishlist of my KLRista.

I have had this bike a while and never intended to sell it (life happens I guess, especially with an 8 & 10 year old..) so I built it as a kind of "Round the world" KLR. It's done a few trips & is well serviced & cared for.

Tom may remember meeting me (and kindly letting me try his 685) a few years back, I still have the GSXR muffler he recommended I buy for it but I didn't get round to fitting it (This has the MMP modded stock muffler) he can at least then confirm I'm a real person :wink2:

For sale my 2009 KLR 650. I bought this bike from an inmate on another site in 2011 & have owned it since. Most of the approx 21.5k miles are mine. I got it with just over 3k on it.

Located in So-cal in Torrance. Easy distance to LAX & Long Beach airports for a fly & ride.

I'm more than happy to help someone here set up this bike for a trip North or South, receive their riding gear in boxes etc. It's not a bad starting point.

I'm happy to ship if necessary.

I originally bought this bike for a trip to Baja where we did mostly on road but some gravel track / fire roads & it has done a few similar trips since.

I have 3 motorcycles (and look after a 4th for a friend out of the country) so I don't tend to put a lot of mileage on any one of them.

This bike is not and has never been an "oil burner" although it is on the younger end of the range of bikes that did suffer this problem. It was fitted with a "Thermobob" from new so this would likely have helped prevent any potential issues.

I hate to leave anything stock as you'll see from the list of FARKLES that this bike has. I also collected a bunch of small spare parts (cables, ignition etc) to carry that can go with the bike and I have some of the stock parts as well.

Added up the replacement cost of just the farkles is more than $5750. Without labor. I know that doesn't mean a lot but it is what it is.

Because of the huge number of farkles I'm looking for $5k obo. I may consider a trade. I will consider removing some farkles if you want a cheaper option.

I'm looking for something with a plate to keep up with my friend on his Husky 701 as well as a better "2 up" bike to take my kids on. (My youngest wants to go "bike camping").
The KLR seat is just too short for a comfortable 2 up bike for me although I see plenty of people that seem to manage.
I'll probably get something like a V-strom or a Super Tenere or maybe one of the Versys.

I'll vouch for salty_monk.

The bike is a sweet ride and he's a very adept wrench. He didn't mention that he designed and had a run of the headlight guards made. I was privileged to get one of them from the limited run. As far as quality goes, I think it has been imitated but never equaled and speaks to his mechanical abilities. This bike is put together right.

@salty_monk, have you considered the Triumph 900 Tiger? It might be what you're looking for. I am fairly serious about fetching up a GT version later this year to replace my BMW R1200RT. I need something just a bit lighter, yet as capable a tourer, than the RT is. It comes in two flavors, one more road-oriented than the other, but certainly two-up capable and off-road-worthy.

salty_monk 01-24-2020 12:24 AM

Thanks Tom. Very kind of you.

I've had the privilege of riding a few years of Tiger but not the new 900. I'd have an 800 as my 2 up bike in a shot. The 1050's I've ridden are a bit more "sports" and the rear seat is quite small. :)

Tom Schmitz 01-24-2020 11:34 AM

The new 900 motor is going to be interesting. Sort of a 'big bang'motor.

A T-plane crank with journals at 0, 90, and 180 and a firing order of 1-3-2.

JTCrow 01-24-2020 10:40 PM

Is that a pelican 1470 or 1490 you have for a top case?

salty_monk 01-31-2020 11:13 PM

Both the top and the skinny side case are 1470's.

If anyone is interested in a deal without all the farkles then please let me know :)

salty_monk 02-20-2020 12:01 PM

New Price - $4500

Bumping this & new price of $4500 to any member here... :)

salty_monk 02-28-2020 04:10 PM

New price of $4200 to a member here... Would also consider a trade for something smaller. WR250R or 450R maybe a DRZ400, KTM 530, something like that...

:)
