Sorry Gunny, live in California now. I used to live in Vermont. I would sure like to know more about your planned ride around Moab in May. I'm thinking about a tour connecting all the National Parks in the four corners area by dirt roads and trails. May is a great time to be there. If there is a group meeting there I would want to plan my trip then.

Gunny, I gotta ask since I only lived in NY four years. When did the Southern Tier becime upstate? :lol: A bunch of us watched a friends pic show of the Trans America Trail today. It was pretty flat and uneventfull till he reached the areas in Utah. I think we all want to go there now! :mrgreen: I think it would be awsome to plan a trip doing a loop of Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. Timing would be everthing since I hear some areas are still 10 ft deep in snow around May. :shock:

pretty much anywhere above liberty is upstate, of course this all in reference to the city. The southern tier, imo is a misnomer started by the "empire zone " lunatics that seem to think they can draw biz to a very economically depressed area, so rather than call it "economically depressed tier", they call it the southern tier, and of course I'm very satisfied with the way the state gov is running things

ok, the disertation of the "mid life crisis tour '07" {thats what the wife calls it :mrgreen: }

My plan is to leave on Monday, May 28th, {early} and arrive in Moab on Wed. Mostly slabbing it all the way out, turning left in nebraska and thru CO to Utah. Have some fun in Moab until Saturday or Sunday and then head back through CO and catch some of the TAT back east, or I could go north and drive through yellowstone and then head off to devils tower, My options after the classic is pretty open as long as I'm back at work on June 12th. I haven't made up my mind yet as to doing an iron butt on my way out, doing a thosand miles in 24 hours isn't that hard really since I plan on about 700 mile days. I know for fact I can cover 650 miles in 10 hours, so 10 hours, sleep for 6 and back on the road and drive another 350 miles in 5 hours, leaving me 3 hours wiggle room. Of course things happen on the road. I could ride longer, you just never know. One guy has shown a real interest in making the trip out with me, but he can't plan as far in advance as I can, so it's a wait and see. I plan on putting a new set of pirelli scorpians on for the trip out and then just spooning on the 606's when I get there so I can play in the desert. I'm making a set of hard bags from 20mm ammo cans and my own panniers. I'll pack accordingly. I figure on staying at the canyonland camp grounds, probably will reserve a cabin within the next month. I'll drag my tent along for the trip out and just set up where ever I happen to stop along the way out and back. Once I get there though, the hard bags come off. I need to do a few more things to the KLR before the trip like get a real skid plate and a set of nerf and highway bars. I already have a corbin dished, so it should be a fairly comfortable ride out. I've done several 250 mile + rides around here with no major comfort issues with the seat. All in all, I'm ready for this trip now, but I don't like riding through snow in the rockies very much :mrgreen: I hope to meet up with several people , at least from the interest on the other boards I've seen so far. It just seems so hard to get guys interested in a long ride these days. I once road to florida on an old yami RD 400 2 stroke, talk about seat buzz ! so this trip should be a breeze.
