Hey, I'm looking at the Backcountry Discover Route starting in Damascus Va. Have you been on that route? What's the level of difficulty? An OK solo route? Anyone want to ride it in March time frame?
Plan to ride it with some friends in May. Our plan is to depart Raleigh on May 22nd, spend three days riding some planned routes up to the Northern start point of the MABDR. We'll then spend 5 or 6 days riding the MABDR South to Damascus.
Can't wait!
and then.... 2021... we'll plan to ride the NEBDR!
I live at the end of section one of the MABDR. I'm only familiar with a the sections in my county and one county over. No problems at all - "toughest" sections are USFS dirt roads. I really can't say much about the rest of the trail. Would like to do it sometime. March will be a bit nippy around here, FYI.
Yes. If you're up for riding with a bunch of 50-ish year old guys whose idea of "camping" is a cheap hotel and place a priority on finding a local brewery on any given night!
Drop me a PM with your email address. I can share our very prelim details and as things firm up. Right now we're three riders with a potential 4th. You would be number 5 (assuming the 4th guy commits).
I’m in Eastern NC. Spent a lot of time growing up in the swamps near the VA border not too far from I-95. Currently living down toward Jacksonville / Morehead City.
I work often, so can’t say I can do too many 3+ day trips, but am desperately seeking KLR friends lol. Only folks I’ve met here ride HD or super sports.
I’m in Richmond, l used to live in Suffolk years ago near the MMBT. Bought my 09’ in 2013 in Seattle WA. I used to ride FSR in the Cascades and Olympics with several duel-sport buds. I retired from the Coast Guard and moved back to Richmond in 2015...been riding solo ever since. I’m tired of looking for a little dirt out here, I certainly miss WA. I’m looking to sell/retire my 09 and move in to a Kawasaki Versys 1000 Spring 21. Until then, Maybe we can meetup and find something together.
Hey,
I haven't found much here in Tidewater either. Some gravel roads in the area, but I have been to Slades Off Road Park a few times to work on skills. That's about it.

As it happens, I’m available a lot now. Eastern N.C. and would love to go ride or meet someone for a tech day. Interested in advancing the cam, but haven’t done much w/ timing on engines.
