OHV parks or trails in the Kansas City Area

Are there any good places to ride in the KC Metro? I was reading about Kansas Rocks in Ft. Scott but its kinda far away and I don't even know if they welcome bikes. It looks more like they cater to the Jeep crowd. Is there any other dedicated area to ride or am I stuck with just exploring back roads?

I live about 80 miles North of KC and I don't know of any. There are some really nice "trails" on conservation land around here, but they're closed to ATV's. I don't really get it, because they're open to horses and they tear them up so bad you can't even ride a mountain bike or hike on them.

Don't really see the difference between ground pulverized by hoofs or knobbies, but suppose they're dedicated for horse riders who don't want motorized vehicles around and it must be a sanctuary for them: Honey Creek Wildlife Area in Atchison County.

I spotted them on a map one time and thought "Hey, what a great mountain bike destination!" When I got there, they were so torn up they were impassable on a bike and even travelling them on foot would have sucked.

There are some ATV parks around The Strip Pits down by Columbia but I've never ridden them.

Unfortunately, I just don't think there are any in this region.

drsmith, if you ever want to get out of the metro and just come up and enjoy some scenic, twisty gravel roads, you could come up to Holt County and go for a ride with me.

It's remote, but if I happened to die on you, if you had a full tank and just kept riding, you'd eventually come out on pavement with some signs somewhere. Might be a good idea to bring some kind of firearm, or I could supply you with one.

It's not an MX/ATV park around here, but it ain't bad.

Savage, I just want somewhere off the beaten path to explore. Nothing too crazy.

Planalp: I might have to take you up on that sometime but I don't have a KLR yet. I am hoping to get one in a month or so. And you won't need to provide me with a firearm, I actually have a CCW permit myself. Why is there a specific need for a sidearm up there?

Oh, I was probably being a little overdramatic. Still lots of antique thieves, copper thieves, methmakers and dope growers around here: never know who you'll run into out in the middle of nowhere. I just like to be prepared.

If you ever get your KLR, get back with me and maybe you can come up and ride some time as long as you're not looking for any high-speed action because I'm a pretty slow and sedate rider. Beats the hell out of riding pavement in KC, tho.

I've taken mine on some trails at a local atv park they opened up late last year. It sucks in the mud but a blast when it's dry. A couple of times when I stopped in to register and pay they asked "Your going to ride that thing here?"

I just ordered garmin 60cs off ebay and looking for some good off road tracks that could be loaded into it upon arrival. I also live in KC so looking for some where within 4 hour drive.
I have seen good video of klrs at finger lakes.
Anyone have .gpx tracks somewhat close to KC area or know where I can download some?
