My first ride on a motorcycle was down a gravel road in SW Minnesota. Gravel because I was a bit shy of the legal age to ride. Sugar sand covered township roads, a tank shifter and a mousetrap clutch will build character. It will also keep the other kids off your bike.
It was there I developed skills that have panned out for me where luck left off.
Anymore "New Riders of the Lutefisk Prairie" out there?
I'll be one on Memorial Day weekend.. I'm riding the Bonzia Rally out of Winona on that weekend.. It's put on by a club just on the other side of the MN/SD state line, near Watertown, but they hold the rally on the East end of the state.
I'll also be up in MN for the MN BMW Rally and the MN Guzzi Rally (both held at the same place, different times) and I also ride with a few guys that are members of TeamStrange out of Minneapolis...
So I'll be a MN rider on a pretty regular basis this summer. Does that count?
Miller did not invest in Hamm’s in 2003 and according to Mr. Genatempo “you won’t see investment behind it in 2004.” On the other hand Dan stated “we’re very attached to the brand,” referring to Hamm’s, and that “it’s great to have that brand loyalty but there needs to be more of it.” The good news is Hamm’s sales are up in three states, California, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Chances are these states, for the time being, are not in the consolidation plans.
Been dualsport riding for about 10 years. Still poor in sand. mud, or wet grass, going over logs, deep ruts, creek or river crossings, high speeds off-road, descending hills with many loose and large rocks, and ascending hills with tree roots crossing at wierd angles. What's that leave? Putting around.

Additionally, I sold the KLR in 2017 and replaced it with KTM 690 enduro. Main bike is 2016 Africa Twin. Maybe Im no longer worthy to be on this site? 😭
Another one, Maple Grove here. Grew up in So. Central MN ag country, lived in both Mpls and STP, Minnetonka for a while, and enjoyed Buffalo while I was there, really made me appreciate Wright County geography. I get back down south around Fairmont due to a riding bud living down there, always a gravel fiesta.
The Dayton gravel roads start just a couple miles NW of me, and the Mississippi is here too, so it kinda feels like home, despite being in suburbia.
I like area of Mille Lacs/ Solana/ Moose Lake/ Namadji/ Duluth/ North Shore trajectory best, but honestly, I will ride anywhere I can go just drop off the tarmac easy.
I firmly believe that time spent in sport on two wheels, dirt, and water, can undo the damage from too much time on 4 wheels on pavement.
The farkling is still reaching crescendo this year, for the first time I bought a bunch of stuff over winter because I was thinking of riding in the warm season. It's project season right now.
jfederline......I work in Rogers, right across from the new Clam building. There are a few of us around this area. We definitely need to get together the summer and get some riding in.
My wife and I relocated from the Chicago area to the Twin Cities area in September. Took the KLR out for 40 minutes on Tuesday after work for the first time since arriving. Really looking forward to finding some great riding in the area!
