Rear ended

So this past February me and my wife were in The process of buying a house. I was on the way to the bank to get some bank statements for my money lender. On the way to the bank there was a school bus parked on the side the road so I had to stop. As soon as I came to complete stop a van hit me from behind going about 45 or 50 miles an hour. I lost consciousness and flew off my bike then the guy that hit me drove over my bike and went about 200 m before he stopped. I had two cracked vertebrae, two fractured vertebrae and a tear in my spleen. Luckily my friend that I got the bike from was coming the opposite way in traffic and saw the whole thing happened. When I came to He was talking to me. He called his wife to have her tell my wife about the wreck. I was in the hospital for 2 days and the guy that hit me was charged with driving with out a license and a felony moving violation.

My biggest fear when on the bike is getting rear ended. Sounds like you are one lucky guy to come away from that.

You're lucky you're not dead. Getting hit at a standstill by a vehicle traveling 45-50mph is a hellacious impact. Not that the outcome wasn't bad enough, but I'm glad to hear it wasn't worse.

I'm with klr4evr, getting hit from behind is my biggest concern when riding.
