GeorgiaDirtDawg Yeah, we've ridden all the blacktop north of Dahlonega, Helen, etc for several years, I've just never ventured off the pavement in those areas. The closest dirt to there that I've been on has been west side of the Cohutta Wilderness, so I'm planning on exploring the east side of it and beyond this fall.

And the tank isn't too big of a deal, plus I'm pulling the bodywork and tank to get it painted by a buddy who can just bondo it for me for now, til I can afford a new tank. Plus I'm upgrading the sub-frame bolt and prob gonna tweak the carb while it's off getting painted, too.

Sheddster Beautiful country down there. I don't know how close you are to Dalton but I have driven through there a few times and it really looks nice. I actually thought about moving there for awhile but I like my job here too much. Also really nice country up I85 from Atlanta all the way up to SC. Looks like really nice cruising country down there. If I were you I would plan a trip on the backroads along the Blue Ridge foothills, kinda going in a northeastern direction. That's what I imagined doing if I was down there anyway.

steferf I'd love a versys...not at all in the market for one at the moment however.

Welcome to the fourm.

If it bothers you enough, there are aftermarket plastic tanks with higher capacity for about 300. Doubles as a radiator guard too.

Welcome to the fourm and make sure to put a pillow under the front tire so she can sleep at night.

Hey guys, just got an '06 with pretty much no mods and only 4,000 miles on it, but at least a few of those miles were pretty tough as it has a good sized dent in the tank and a few spots welded on the rear rack and rear brake lever mount.
Plus, it's rattle-can red right now, so probably gonna put a good basic black coat of paint on it.

I've been riding since I was a kid (seems even longer ago every day...), just never had a good true dual purpose bike before, always had a sportbike or trail bike (got an '09 Versys for sale right now if anyone is interested in an excellent street bike that isn't intimidated by dirt roads). Lots of great info here on the forum, and can't wait to start tinkering!

And any advice on areas to ride would be appreciated. I'm in NW Georgia, and so far I pretty much hit the Cohutta Wilderness area most of the time.
