Kinda hard to explain, but . . . the pannier support hangs from the rack with a "twist," not unlike that of a Chinese nail puzzle, in a way, This twist prevents the assembly from bouncing off the rack, but permits fast, seamless removal or installation of the luggage.

The pannier supporta fit inside saddlebags when assembled for travel; I show the bare panner support with bracket and fuel container for structural illustration only.

The assembly doesn't move around appreciably on the road; the strap between saddlebags keep 'em from flying outward, and the ballast and the bends of the support rod keep 'em from bouncing on the rack.

I've found the arrangement to be durable and rugged; the container can be filled at a fuel pump without removing it from its bracket. A quarter-turn of its holding bolt releases the container, for example, when carrying luggage inside for an overnight trip stop.

The "hitch:" Must have Cycleracks! I have Cycleracks on both my KLR650 and KLR250; luggage is seamlessly interchangeable.

Damocles It ain't a Roto-Pax, but . . . I think the Kolpin bracket for this Pioneer 1.25-gallon container (Cycleracks rack and pannier set) is the same, at least compatible with both containers:

Here's a view of the bracket-and-container, without the saddlebag:

Would a Roto-Pax fit? Depends upon how wide it might be, seems to me.

opinions on roto pax on our KLR ?

may 31st i leave for My home in Wasila Alaska from colorado springs , and there is one stretch im worried about if the local station will be open in canada, rest should be no problem . The season for travelers will just be opening up so hopefully most stations will be open ..

But i was wondering how well the roto pax holds up bouncing around on the trails ,brackets and all ..

i looked at the msr bottles but thats just 2 liters and for 45 bucks for 2 i can get a gallon can for same price ..

ive seen few strapped to back of some bikes but never seen dual sports with them mounted on the racks on dirt .. thinking might be a reason for it ..
