I don't bother keeping any valve shims around (besides ones I've removed) because I know if I need any after teardown and order them from Rocky Mountain, they'll be on my porch 2 days later with no outrageous shipping costs.

Rotella ok tell me why the Rotella oil made today is really any better than any other oil? Since I am in South TEXAS I like to run 20W-50.
I am going to have to change out the clutch springs soon and check the valve clearances and felt at this time I would change the oil to Mobil 1 full synthetic 15W-50.
On a side note not to many years ago I would use Rotella due to the higher ratios of anti wear properties. But like everything else the EPA finally got to them as well. So I tend to run Brad Penn Oil on older flat tappet engines. But mainly when they are flat tappet mechanical with increased valve spring pressures along with what one could call dramatically increased cam ramps.

sold more Rotella than truckers use annually.
The reason for this message on the thread was that I saw on Amazon that they also
sell m/c tires, and many of them. The statement that caught my eye was "Amazon.com
uses Bike Bandit warehouses and shipping companies for tires and some parts." Yet Amazon was 2 dollars Cheaper than BB. Go figure.
You'll notice that Rocky Mountain is popular here, probably for very good reasons.
My tire story gets weirder. I clicked the Fed Ex link to see if my tire was somewhere in
Arizona, or just coming off the container ship. The tracking details showed BB contacting
a warehouse here in Indiana, the tire was shipped out and is now in South Bend 20 minutes
from here at the Fed Ex hub by the airport. Delivery is expected before noon. If this plays
out, the time from ordering it, to answering the door will be 25 hrs !!! I'm already making room in the garage for surgery. Tunes, coffee, tools, new farkles, AHHHHHHH............
Doing a goofy side project too. Testing the bike with a closed loop coolant flow.
Disconnecting the radiator for some temperature testing.

Sorry if I rambled about Rocky Mountain but in my experience to not have a problem with any company when shipping items and to receive them quick is like trying to find chicken lips lol.

I just ordered up the 705 too.
I used Bike Bandit. Went to Rocky Mtn, and M/C Superstore. All were
priced within a few bux of each other. Similar shipping, etc. Heard very good
customer service stories about Bandit and Rocky's.
Order received at noon, next email they sent today, it already shipped !!!

Great Q about the wiring location when there's a whole engine block to exit from.
A rock piece that goes into the cover is likely to get "pulled through" by the chain no
matter the sprocket tooth count. Stoopid, or smart if you charge 80 bucks an hour to
repair anomalies like this. Or, the ignition wire bundle wrapping around the steering
head next to the stops. Pinch point.
Dunno why Mike slipped my mind. I taught him everything he knows (cough). LOL
While playing at Amazon.com it hadda listing/ ad for a 17t countershaft sprocket for
KLR fitment, but there was a 16 in the part number. Sure enuff, a 16 showed up.
Nice. I already have two. Kept it for a Christmas gift for brother in law ('07) cuz
he's street only. I emailed Amazon in December yet the website still has the 16t
listed as a 17.
Yet another tire thread coming next........Blasting the crap outta the tax check.
Naturally, it's on farkles and mama's rustic decor. Blowin' it on our hobbies.

Lengthen the green Neutral wire and run the wires 'Straight-Up' from the grommet, outside of the plastic sprocket cover. Just cut that little protrusion off of the top front of the sprocket cover. And then route wires across to the main engine case bolt and tab.
It wouldn't take but a small gravel stone to jam the wires between engine cover and a 17T sprocket.
Why do so many engines have their wires in harms way like this???

Glad to hear as I almost did not mention Eagle Mike's as at first I felt that you have been around long enough to know about his products. I believe he also has instructions for the installation of the 17 Tooth front sprocket. As a side note I also opted for the Eagle Mfg. Prevailing Torque Countershaft Nut.
As for the questions since I was also looking at going with a 17 tooth front sprocket. Yes the factory chain will work with the 17 tooth front sprocket. And yes one will have to do some clearance work to the front chain guard to gain room for the larger sprocket.
At this time I opted for the 16 Tooth front sprocket mainly due to cost. As it was only $8.00 at Rocky Mountain ATV & MC. As my 96 KLR needed lots of other things and probably still does lol. But I like the OP I will probably not be doing any crazy stuff in the future so the mainly street gearing will suit my riding style just fine as well and maybe knowing the gearing will not allow me to do crazy stuff will keep me out of trouble. Maybe
