|SLO-KLR||Yes it is on the lower right side. There should be a cover that snaps off to reveal the adjustment. I believe the V-2 shocks are a brass screw instead of the wheel on the V-1 bikes.|

Yes, mine is a 96. I found the spring preload was set on minimum on the back. I upped it to the highest level but now we ~ 10" of snow so I'll have to wait until next week to try it out again. Bent the mangled plate back into place and plan on adding some stand-off spacers to it when I get down to Home Despot next. FYI - The bike manual I have shows a damper adjuster on the shock but I can't seem to find it. Need to look at the picture again but isn't it supposed to be the right lower side of the stock shock?

I have 1 1/2 lowering links on my 08. I only lowered the front about an inch. You can't lower the full 1 1/2 with out handle bar risers because the forks will hit the handle bars. I actually like the effect because it changed the rake slightly and I feel it handles a little better.
You must have a pre 08 because I don't see any way you can hit the license on an 08.

Happy St Paddy's John! Well, had a few whiskeys while my wife went for guinness and corned beef sandwiches. You have fallen victim to what many good KLR riders before you have. And you even got to keep the plate. Lots of times it is just gone. Lowering probably doesn't help, but relocation is key from what I understand. You can do a search and probably find out some good info, or you can wait for someone who rides offroad to respond. I stick to pretty level terrain.
If you don't want to or can't tighten up the rear suspension via coersion, begging, or aftermarket parts, then you're gonna want to relocate...wife's back. Laters.

Rear Sag Height and License Plate Fitment
So Happy Saint Pat's Day folks! Glad he drove those darn asphalt snakes out of Ireland, eh? Anyway, I took the long roads down to my Corned Beef and Cabbage today here in Beautiful Colorado with the temperature hitting a balmy 68F on the way home. I road about 60 miles on unpaved and very, very unimproved or even maintained oil rig roads with lots of suspension travel and enough front and back sliding to get my "off-road" skills a bit improved. Sorry to say however, when I got to the pub I found the license plate completely folded under the fender!!! This bike has lowering links of some kind on it and now I'm trying to figure out how this happened. Do I need to refit the plate farther up or rear of my Pirelli knobbies??? Along the lowering thread, if the PO said it had 2" rear lowering links shouldn't one drop the front forks 2" to keep the geometry the same as well? My fork tubes appear to be 1" above the triple clamp and the ride is fairly smooth so maybe I just need to move the plate. Am going to go over the service manual here over a Guinness in owner St. Pat!
