What is this term "winterize" and what does it mean?
It almost sounds like some of you folks don't ride your bikes for extended periods of time for some reason.

I do nothing but fire it up a coupla times per month and run it till hot.
Even in the dead of winter a lap around the block also. Just gotta make sure the
roads aren't icy. Snow is fine for a gentle ride.

With the automatic vacuum operated fuel valve, one needn't pull the fuel tank to pull a spark plug to inject fogging oil.
With fuel stabilizer in a full fuel tank and the engine run long enough to be warm, just disconnect the small vacuum hose from the fuel tap. Insert the nozzle or straw of the fogging oil can into the vacuum hose and simultaneously crank the starter motor and squirt fogging oil at the same time.
No need to worry if it runs a bit as we perform this act.
Just hit the kill switch before you release the fogging oil button. Then drain the carburetor.
I live in the very dry climate of WY. I've never fogged my bike, but I might ride it on any 40f winter day. Almost got a speeding ticket at 11f on New Years day once! Patrolman suggested that it might be a little warmer if I went a little slower. I simply said "not much", with a big smile.

I haven't pulled a plug and fogged a motor in decades, Harley's, lawnmowers, snowblowers, outboards, leaf blowers, etc.
I change the oil, fill the tank add stabilizer, run the engine to circulate the stabilizer, then drain the carb, pull battery and put it on a charger. sometimes I plug the exhaust and intake with SS wool to keep the vermin out.

Have a new 2017 only put 500 km(just picked it up) changed oil once.
I may get to put another 500km before winter...what do you guys do to winterize? I will change the oil again but is it worth pulling of the tank to spray 10-W40 in the cylinder? I used to put engine oil but a buddy told my it chars the piston when it burns off in the spring.
