Danielsand Your $100 expense is money well spent. You spent that to keep yourself out of someone else's nightmare. Add that amount to the purchase price of the bike you will eventually buy, and call it good. There is a decent 2003 on Ebay, but "pick up" only (there are people that would pick it up for you!). This time of the year it's hard to find good bikes (most are tucked away for the winter). Best time to buy is in the fall.

I am "old school" (or just old), and I favor 1st generation, over others. New bikes (street, and others) look more and more like transformers, and I never played with transformers when I was a kid in the 60s,......they don't appeal to me.

I received (as a gift) 2003 KLR with 1287 miles original. Working on it as we speak (new tires, new oil, filter, chain)....just been sitting for many years. It was in the barn, so no sun damage/fading,.......will look like new by the time winter is over.

Good luck in your search. Be persistent, and you'll find it. I drove COUNTLESS miles/hours to look at dishonestly described ......bikes, cars, trucks, motorhomes, airplanes.......all of it. Every one that you don't buy, is money in your pocket.

rebus20 Disregard. I swear I hate dealing with people online. I drove 2 hours to buy a bike that was described as nice condition, needs nothing, road ready, nice plastics just a few of the terms he used. Well, it turned out to be scratched up plastics that had been spray painted green, fork boots split open, split in the rear tire, rust everywhere, a speedometer that "worked yesterday" yeah right, so I doubt the 10k miles were accurate, probably years worth of chain lube built up and no air filter or air filter cover on the box. I was shocked. I offered him $900 to which he said no so I left it sitting there. Anyone looking, avoid the one in live oak fl. Im out 4 hours of driving and $100 in food and gas. Why cant people just be honest?

Bluehighways If you're going to replace the Oil Drain Plug you might want to consider a flush style Drain Plug. The Stock Oil Drain Plug has a nasty reputation for catching on things like rocks and other immovable objects that it can encounter. Even with a Skid Plate installed, the stock Oil Drain Plug will often extend past that.

rebus20 Thanks for that tip. I will double check that

pdwestman NEVER Forget or loose, the thick aluminum gasket on the incompletely cut threads of those aftermarket drain plugs when used on a KLR650 engine!!!!!!

Broken/Cracked drain plug boss is usually the result of such Error!

rebus20 Dont think so. He said it was all stock so I did plan on doing that mod. I have a magnetic drain plug from a previous concours. Does anyone know if they are the same? I think kawi used the same plugs for a lot of different bikes. According to amazon it will fit.

Question an 03 and intro

Im new to the site but not motorcycles. Ive owned over 20 in my 42 years with my current ride a 14 fjr that ive toured all over the country with. Ive had mostly sport bikes with a few harleys thrown in and lately its been sport tourers. Im looking at a 03 klr with 10k miles for a price I cant pass up. I was invited to ride the whole tat in 2019 and was going to pick up this klr for that. It gives me time to do upgrades and get used to offroad.
The bike is 100% stock and the guy says it runs like new and is road ready, needing nothing but a blinker bulb. Is there anything to look for on the 03 besides the usual like leaks at the drain plug and general condition?
