Danielsand Thank you for the welcome, and the link. All the info in the link, I knew from this site (as a lurker), and many other places on the web. I've been wrenching on the bikes since about 1970. I have few torque wrenches in my garage, but I seldom use them. Had a bad experience many years ago, when the torque wrench was faulty, and stripped some important bolts on one of my rides. I am diehard DIY type, and I have many vehicles that I work on, for many years. With that (lifetime) experience, I never stripped a bolt using the plain ratchet. On some stuff (e.g. camshafts, bearings, etc.) I have to use the torque wrench, but oil drain plugs and such no. I also believe in Locktite, and I am locking all the bolts on this machine (footpegs/subframe, etc.).

This thing will see very limited use (short season in my location), and it will mainly be used on my horse ranch to round up horses and such. I will never travel with it, and it will never carry anything more than me, and my rifle. I might ride it to town once in a while (15 miles away), but on the street I mostly ride BMW R1200C. Bike was originally purchased by a 70 year old man (85 today), and it was too heavy for him. He dropped it in his gravel driveway (after putting exactly 1287 miles on it), while dismounting. Parked it in the barn, and never looked at it again. Never even thought about selling it, or fixing it. He went on to side-by-sides (I hate those things!) from that point on, and has three or four of them. Those things are too small for me. I am not "big" (190lb), but I stand 6'3" with long legs (longer than my torso), and I feel cramped in them.

So back in October he called me to say that he has a present for me for my upcoming birthday, and to come to his ranch with a trailer. I've seen this thing in his barn under the tarp before. He helped me loading this thing on the trailer, and said "have fun fixing it through the winter".

Last year in June, my barn caught fire, and I lost BMW K1200RS, and KTM 640 (plus couple of quads, all kinds of machinery,....a lot of stuff). I replaced KRS with R1200C (much slower, and more comfortable ride) right away, and I mentioned few times that I miss my KTM for the work on the ranch. Guess that's why I got this Kawi from him.

Intro

Hi all. New here. Been riding for 45+ years. Riding BMW R 1200C on the street. Two months ago, I got 2003 KLR 650 for my birthday. It has 1287 miles on the clock, was parked in a barn for years, with usual problems (dryrotted tires, rusty chain, dirty carb). Somebody dropped it on the left side, and damaged the shroud, and radiator. I am restoring it to bone stock as we speak.
I am not new to dual sport. Been riding 1995 KTM 640, which I lost in a fire last year.
