ductapenzipties Nothing wrong with it I don't think, maybe a little extra wear and tear. I don't personally do it often as id rather try and park more efficiently. Can't say I haven't screwed up and parked in a tight decline before.

pdwestman Shouldn't be too hard to ride to a Kawasaki Dealership and measure a side stand Your Way, while the new bike is setting on the showroom floor. Just sayin'.

bigjohnsd What is the length of a stock Gen 2 Side Stand: pivot bolt to foot? My Gen 2 was lowered when I bought it, now the stand seems quite short with EM RL-2 and a Top Gun spring.

DPelletier I've seen a pic of one collapsed Gen2 stand....not sure what from. I imagine the bends weaken it compared to the Gen1 stands. Certainly haven't been enough instances to label it a concern IMO

Damocles Any reports of broken/bent/damaged KLR650 side stands from pivot turns?

PLEASE: No destructive testing to find out!

Side stands

Gen-2 2011 here. I lowered my bike 1" rear, and dropped front forks 1' too.
Cut OEM side stand, and inserted a 1 3/4 " bushing inside. (Set screws to hold it all together.) Large foot pad for added surface in dirt.
Seems quite strong.
I don't think I like the idea of putting that much strain, even on an unmodified stand. If I was in a situation where that was my only option, I may give it a try??

I would not do it "just because" I could. Best to plan to NOT get in a situation where that was your only option.

jon2xc It works no problem. Perhaps only abuse the stand when the trail is super tight but mine has been strong enough for me to perform this procedure with a loaded bike a number of times.

well you know what this means, I'm going to try it, repeatedly until it breaks, so then I can curse repeatedly....lol
