I see EBAY dealer auctions that will say something like $4295 out the door with no hidden fees. If you read further it'll say residents of their state pay x % sales tax. Obviously, a non resident purchaser would pay sales tax in their home state if applicable. I'd assume tag and title would also be paid in the non resident buyers home state so need to factor those cost in to the actual OTD price.
I listed my OTD price here in FL with a breakout showing 6% sales tax for me since that varies among forum members states and can be used for comparison in their area. I decided to find a new 2009 bike for under $5000 total price off the lot and came in under my goal. I've been told all Kawasaki dealers pay the same price for the bike, but sales price will obviously vary based on location and inventory. I've also seen where a dealer will have a lower price on an internet website than available for a customer walking in the door to make a deal.
I wanted to find a new 2009 leftover while there were still enough in the area to play the dealers pricing against each other. I determined I would drive 2 hours each way to save $100 and went into making the deal with that mindset.
When a dealer starting throwing individual numbers at me, I just stopped them and said all I cared about was the OTD price and however they broke out the individual numbers to get there was up to them. Saved a lot of time and put the responsibility on the salesman to do his work to give me his best and final OTD price. That was all I cared about since any dealer will support the warranty and these bikes are pretty bullet proof so I didn't go for any extended warranty or service contract BS.

However, I see posts where OTD prices are in the $4300 range and others $5000 range each claiming it's a good deal. Seems there might be some confusion about the definition of "OTD" which to me is the cost of the bike, crap dealer fees, tax and title.
I get quotes for in the $4700 and $5000 range all day long.
So is holding out for 09 KLR for $4300 OTD (bike, dealer fees, tax and title) unreasonable or does it really happen under my definition of OTD?

An important item to factor in is the varying factory rebates the dealer factors in to the selling price. I don't know what manufacturer incentives were offered back in April. I do know there's a $350 rebate expiring 31 August and another that's for $500 and good up to 30 Sep. So, someone purchasing from a dealer today has at least $850 in rebates, but someone purchasing after tomorrow only has a $500 for the dealer to factor in. There may be other dealer incentives like end of month sale to not have to pay interest for the bike still on the floor another month.

Just back from unloading the trailer and putting my new RED 09 from Skypowersports in Lake Wales, FL in the garage. Closed the deal on the last one in inventory with Adam Pearce for 4944.93 OTD including 6% sales tax. The bike was uncrated and built 2 days ago. Adam rolled it off the showroom floor this morning to have the service department install the battery and put gas in the tank.
Unfortunately, they informed me the owners manual had gotten wet and they have to order a replacement from the factory. They're 2 hours away from me so I'll have to wait for them to mail it to the house.
If you're in the central FL area it's well worth calling and checking their inventory. (863) 676-2245 or (800) 572-2035. I enjoyed walking in and not being circled by vultures. The guys their are laid back and not in a rush.
Rodney Rittenhouse in parts sold me a pair of gloves, rain gear and tie down straps for a great sales price.
Have the thermobob on order and looking for the magnetic oil plug next.
Thanks to the forum for helping the noob.

I got an 09 Red a little over a month ago for $5000 OTD in South FL (Broward Motor Sports). They had a 2010 Black which is ultimately what I wanted, but they were not budging on the price so they could get the 09's off the floor.
I definitely could have done better!! Your best bet is to start the offer low ($3500??) and see what they agree on. I made the mistake of starting at $5000 and they immediately agreedÖ They started with an offer of $5900 which included numerous fees. When I offered $5000 OTD then they lowered the price of the bike to $3800 then included their $1200 in BS fees to equal $5000.
Forget the invoice price and find whatís comfortable for you!! They definitely want to get rid of the 09ís!!!

This is where I picked up my zx10. They were just a little bit higher than Champions at the time on the KLR. That $3999 is +++. My goal was the same as yours, under $5k OTD.
