Why are radar detectors legal? Serious question, what besides evading tickets is their purpose?

I haven't had a ticket in 30 years. I don't abuse the speed limit so I don't attract attention.

Sometimes it's not safe to drive the speed limit especially on a bike. Better to be going a bit faster than the flow.

Passport 9500ix Radar detector mount?

Dear KLR's
Johnny law has enough of my cash! How have you mounted your radar detectors? I ran two 1/16th aluminum angle uprights from the 4 windshield screws to a cross bar and am using the suction cup attachment piece without the cups screwed to the cross piece. Photo will follow after road tests confirmed. Any better ideas? I already have the Zumo gps on a ram mount to the handle bars.
Thanks for any ideas.
