Tug Hill Riders

I知 a new rider. Purchased my KLR 08 last September. Put just over 1000 miles, but not much off road. I was thinking of heading to the Tug Hill area when the snow melts and it dries up a little. I spend some time in that area during the winter on my sled and I know it sees a lot of quad traffic through out the snowless seasons.

I think many of the snowmobile trails are seasonal / dirt roads. Has anyone rode that area on a bike?

Western part of NY.

It actually is the Tug Hill Plateau. Because of its elevation and being east of the great lakes, it gets a ton of snow in the winter and has 100s of miles of snowmobiling groomed trails in the winter. Most of these trails are seasonal, limited use, dirt roads in the non-snow months. Many are used by quads. I知 sure it would be a blast exploring this area on KLRs. I知 wondering if anyone has done any exploring in this area on KLRs or other dual sport bikes.

^That would explain why I've never heard of it.

Sounds like a nice place to ride.

sammy good to hear from someone in the area i have never rode bike up there, only wheelers we had a blast, there is a couple of rides comming up one is a "snirt" run(snow+dirt) whitch can be a blast or a real pain in butt, i would not recomend it on bike when the snow clears im sure it would be fun. where abouts are you located? Im from Utica, well close to there.

Tug Hill. Be carefull offroading the bikes in NY. They have some strange rules on public lands sometimes.

Talking Love the Winter But Ready For Spring!

Buildit: These are all seasonal roads I ride the KLR on. Legal for any licensed/registered vehicles. I know many quads ride off these roads on and through private lands. I stay on the seasonal roads.

lefty650: Good to hear form a local KLRr. I was up on the Hill last week on the sled. Still about 3 plus feet of snow in most areas. It値l be a while before the KLR makes it up there. I知 in Rome. Keep in touch, we値l ride sometime.
