The Road Less Travelled

Finally! The route I prefer for my 30-mile commute is open after the Flood Of 2011 waters receded in time for me to get some use out of it this year. Haven't been able to ride it since early June when the road was covered up by about 10 feet of water.

I lose 2 miles of Interstate and gain about 7 miles of gravel roads up and down over the "Monkey Mountains" along the Missouri river bluffs.

Now, my entire commute, at least until I get into the town where I work, is about 2/3 blacktop roads (the kind without even a centerline) and about 1/3 gravel and both pass through some pretty remote areas with lots of wildlife to check out.

Takes longer, but that's okay: that just means more riding time. It's a very enjoyable and wild-looking route to take in the dark. Definitely glad I added that extra light.

Planlap, you "get" it.

“The shortest distance between two points is often unbearable.” C.B.

However, I often set my GPS to show the shortest distance between point A&B and come out with some great rides, or just follow my nose.

Gray-haired riders don’t get that way from pure luck.

Sounds like an ideal commute! Keep your eyes peeled for those forest dwellers.

LOL I hear the Crazy Jakes never cross or travel on the road: they prefer to stay in the cover of the woods. That's why nobody's ever seen one.
