What would you do?

Last Sunday I was internet shopping for a Samsung 16gb 10.1" tablet. Tigerdirect had a pretty decent price and they also accepted paypal. For those of you that use paypal I'm sure you're aware that during the buying process and re-direction to the paypal site you'll eventually end up at the paypal "confirm payment page". This never happened during my purchase from Tigerdirect. When I was redirected to my paypal it simply said continue and KAZAM....I was transferred back to Tigerdirect saying "Thanks for your purchase". I like to "pretend purchase" items from vendors that accept paypal right up until the moment that I find out what their shipping method and fees are. Well, after seeing that I purchased this item (and an extra 2 year warranty from Square Trade), I immediately went to my paypal account and banned Tigerdirect from receiving payments via paypal. Well guess what? The tablet will be delivered tomorrow and it didn't cost me a dime. As the topic says....What would you do?

Pay for it or send it back. Right is right. Even when it feels wrong.

It seems that by asking advice you already know the right thing to do. I'm with ky and LJ on this one. Had a similar thing happen when I bought a kayak. The girl screwed up on the bill, charged me and then credited me. I went home with around $2K worth of boat and gear. Didn't realize what happened till two credit card statements later. I went back and told them about it. They had no idea that they were out the money but were very appreciative that I was an honest person. The manager wound up charging me for everything but the $150 paddle as a thanks.

Depends, Rainier_Tom, whether I want to commit THEFT BY FRAUD or not.

Maybe you do.

I do not. Thus, as mentioned above by kyjohn and Lockjaw, I'd pay for the merchandise or return it.

Bernie Madoff had no problem, committing theft by fraud.

While he stole more than your "tablet" is worth, some similarities are inescapable, in my view.

Taking property that doesn't belong to you is theft, whether shoplifting cans of beer, stealing motorcycles, or . . . accepting tablets you do not pay for, AFAIK; YMMV.

I agree. You knew the answer before you asked the question.

I'm sick so allow me to ramble. When I was 21 or so I found a blank envelope with $200 in it. Cash. Now, to me, at the time, that was like winning the ****ing lottery. I took it down the street to the police station. They thought I was crazy. A few hours later a little old lady called freaking out about losing her money to pay her medical bill. She tried to give me a reward and I wouldn't take it. (She was poor, too) All involved thought I was a nutjob and I thought, what a shame that doing the right thing makes you appear crazy.

Different scenario, but you get my drift.

Keeping it without paying for it would be the same as them taking your payment and keeping it and then never sending you the tablet.

Some would waffle about your scenario (I note nobody on here has so far) but I doubt if anybody would think that second hypothetical situation wherein a company took your money but never sent you anything was "okay."
