In Honor Of Halloween

We're big Halloween people and decorate our yard every year for the trick or treaters in town, so I figured why not give the folks on the street something to look at.

I added this to the top of my trunk. It's one of those "museum quality" replica skulls I bought about 20 years ago. I filled the skull cavity with vinyl concrete patch and positioned a 7/8" bolt in it and let it set up.

I had to drill a hole through the lid of my box, but no big deal. I can find some kind of rubber plug for it later. It's secured on there with a great big hand nut (with Loctite, of course) so it's solid as a rock.

Figured it might make me stand out more from the rear in traffic, too......

This Year's Costume

Forgot it was right around the corner. Had to work with what I already had in the old Halloween Decorations Tote:

My original plan was to find a piece of 1/2" wire rope and kind of "wrap" it around the front of the KLR, fray both ends and put some "No Trespassing" signs on it so it would look like I drove through it and snapped the cable, but that stuff is hard to find. Even scrap cable in a junkyard commands a premium price and the effect wouldn't be right unless it was of a really large diameter. Maybe next year........

Unfortunately Halloween isn't celebrated particularly well over here (ironic considering it's Celtic / Pagan heritage!) but I lived in the States when I was a kid (my Dad served with your SEALs in the the 70s/early 80s) and I brought back your gusto for all festivities / holidays.

To this end, we're about the only house in our cul-de-sac that does anything remotely Halloween-ish. Here's our pumpkin carving endeavours for this year:

I'm quite proud of my Boris Karloff Frankenstein face

Well played, UK. Your Dad must have been a tough dude. I used to live in San Diego and knew a lot of SEALS....

Cheers Lockjaw, he was. He was a member of the SBS (Special Boat Service) and a founding member of Comacchio Company. He went over to the US to teach the SEALs (SEAL Team 2, Virginia Beach) about anti-terrorism work - guarding oil rigs, nuclear subs, etc. Died in a diving accident in '82. He was only 30, terrible shame.

I'm still in contact with some of his SEAL buddies, which is really wonderful (one of them became an astronaut!) and I should be over state side, for a visit, catch up and mooch around the SEAL base next year
