Your Other Hobbies

Sure, we all like KLR's and riding, but what else do you do for fun? Post up some pics and tell us about it.

Here's a shot of the man-made thing I use and enjoy most besides the KLR, my Celestron NexStar8 telescope I use to explore the night sky.

I write (www.jdmader.com). I fish. I collect knives. I play music (http://theflyingblackhats.bandcamp.com/). And I play with my daughter.

AKA JD Mader or you can call me "Dan" just not early for dinner.

I enjoy "RVing" with my family (having a queen bed, shower, fully equipped kitchen is not camping). I also enjoy shooting, fishing and crabbing. I am also a 31 year member of the local volunteer fire company, while my firefighting days are slowing down (not stopped but here are some younger guys to do the dirty work), I do march with the fire company band as a tuba player. We have marched in Washington DC for several presidents and recently marched in New York City for the Veterans Day parade.

Hey, I haven't marched in a band in about 32 years, but I played the tuba all through school. I got on a kick awhile back about actually trying to find an old, used tuba or sousaphone but man, you're still talking big money for even a crappy one. I think I could still play either reasonably well.

Cool that you marched in those parades; must have been a blast!

Oh, I also have one of these (for those cloudy nights) and if you have kids, you should get them one. It will keep them entertained for hours. Any mundane item you can find to look at instantly becomes really cool.

I'm talking about the microscope, not the bottle of Crystal head vodka.

Don't know if it qualifies as fun but I've been a fitness buff since a teenager. Been doing circuit-training jogging/ walking for so long- like motorcycling- it has become part of me. Think both are more of an addiction.

My most consuming hobby? seems to be graduate school. My boss seemed to think it was imperative to my continued success so I'm working to finish by next December. This winter I'm also spending a lot of time with my son's basketball activities. When I have time I like to make knives, do a little woodwork and gunsmithing, hunt when there's time. When I finish school I'm going to concentrate more on taking my son hunting and fishing before he gets too old to care about what his parents want to do.PC300060.jpg

I guess the only real hobby I have is Amateur Radio -

One incarnation of the "go box"

The mess that was sometimes in the Land Cruiser -(only went this overkill for events where I was volunteering as a radio operator)

One of my hobbies was my Land Cruiser (soon to be sold)

My newest hobby will me the FJC
