He said there was no wind and no sensation that he was actually falling.
That would totally suck to jump out of the bolloon and not fall, just kind of float out there. Ooopps, guess I went a tad too high.

I guess it's all relative because of the density of the atmosphere, but falling at 1,000 km/hr is going about 620 miles per hour.

This guy was later shot down and spent 11 months in a Vietnamese POW camp and he's still alive today at 83.

It surprises me that in the last 50 years nobody has ever outdone this, if for no real practical purpose, just to be able to say they beat the record.

I just jumped out of a balloon at 100,000 feet. Can someone light a smoke for me? Love it!!!

Gray-haired riders donít get that way from pure luck.

Yup, times have changed.

Cool video!

I was wondering if anybody else got a kick out of that.

I was watching "Vietnam in HD" on The History Channel and they had shots from inside a C-130 as it circled down into Khe Sanh air base while it was under fire. The pilots had cigarettes in their hands while they were cranking the yokes around while dropping down to the air strip.

Lots of the helicopter crews were also shown smoking in flight, but when I started flying in helicopters in the Army around 1986 or so, we could still smoke while flying.

When they banned smoking, they didn't take out the ash trays because even though they weighed nothing, it was an inventory item and removing it would require a weighing and weight and balance change. So, they just had us leave them there and safety-wire them shut.

Looks like somebody's going to attempt to break this record.

I don't know...strikes me as a non-smoker. I don't know if he's got the right stuff.....

Talking

Amazing stuff. I recently read somewhere, a guy is going to try something similar soon. Don't know if he'll be as high.
In the late 70's in my USAF days, it wasn't too surprising to find the occasional 'roach' under the T-33A trainer seats.......

....and NOT the bug.

The guy who's going to try to break the record is a guy named Felix Baumgartner and his main sponsor is Red Bull.

One of his advisors is Joe Kittinger, the guy who made the record jump back in the 60's. Can't think of a better source of information regarding this feat than him.
