Riding the KLR on a Road Race Track

http://youtu.be/O4zub8CRp1o

Last weekend was my first track day for 2012. I decided to use my KLR to control ride. At first people laughed. Until I gave a few of them a good run for their money, And lapped a bunch of others. I normally am not allowed to to ride strange bikes in any groups higher then intermediate. But I was moving good and rode with the advanced group. It was raining. So it sort of evened out the field a little.

If the bike was not is such great shape it would be Zebra print by now. I just got it 2 weeks ago for $2000. I am very happy with it. The previous owner took very good care of it. I wonder how he like the video.....

That looks like a lot of fun. Wish I had a place like that to go ride.

I'm assuming the tape is required to hold glass/plastic components in place in the event of a crash?

The club was Roger Lyle's Motorcycle Xcitement. They are a good club, and the prices are right Girls ride for $100 and military get discounts too. I am a control rider and do tech too. So I laughed at myself.
If you are in the Mid Atlantic area and want to do a track day, Summit Points Shenandoah Circuit is great for small bikes. Its only got one real straight. The rest is twisties and elevation changes. Its a real good time.

I've looked at them before, and they are a little loose on the safety requirements. Having stuffed a car into the tires between 4 and 5 on main because of a Mustang with a coolant leak, I'm not comfortable running on track if anybody is running antifreeze. Other than disposing of used coolant, it's so easy to switch over to water.
