A Warning For Paper

Excerpt from an article about the ongoing Midwest drought and future food prices:

Jeff Born, a Northeastern University finance professor and director of the executive MBA program, told the Christian Science Monitor it will only get worse.

“If you like bacon [and] pork, you should buy it now, because by the fall you are going to be stunned at what it will cost," he wrote in an email.

Time to stock up the freezer, dude.

Wouldn't want to have to sell one of your bikes for bacon.

I heard on the radio that farmers are thinning their herds because of the drought. Hay is getting expensive.

Thus, cheaper meat right now. More expensive later.

I think paper might need to get himself a deep freezer.

EWWWWW!!!

Actually, friends and I raise hogs ourselves, for our own use.. I think we have 6.. Come Feb we take a weekend and kill/skin/gut/halve them one day and butcher and make sausage the next.. I'm lucky since a half runs me $50 (plus labor)..

I will stock up at my local Amish food store on bacon, though.. I buy my meat by the 1/2 hog and 1/4 beef, and between that and venison, I'm pretty well stocked with a medium freezer..

Thanks for the heads up!! The drought has pasture land and hay in it's grip and it's not going to be pretty..
