Our cat Suki is very old for a cat. If I am recalling correctly she is right at 18 years old. She still gets around well for a cat her age but her belly is feeling its age so she needs a special diet comprised of one part high calorie fine ground pet food, one part canned pumpkin filling and four parts water. pumpkin is to help move all of it through her as we have almost lost her a couple of times now for getting plugged up and dehydrated. She can only eat about a teaspoon of this mix at a time so we need to almost constantly feed her and keep the other cats from taking it from her. I am honored to do this for her and humbled by the grace with which she lives her remaining days (she is almost completely deaf so I am sure she doesnt realize how loud she is). After eating she finds a warm spot in the sun or on a blanket and curls up as best as her old bones will let her and I try to make her as comfortable as I can, tucking her in and plumping up her bed, gently petting her to insure she knows she is loved and among family.
From this interaction I take away one one shining lesson on life that gives a truly insightful glance into my nature ... my dumb ass keeps licking his fingers after mixing up that food.
