In my humble opinion, gold and silver won't really do you any good - because the only reason they've got value is because society says they've got value. You'd be better off loading up on plenty of ammo for your weaponry, along with food and other essential supplies to sustain and protect your life. Another good thing would be items that can be used for barter.

Unfortunately, I lost all my guns in a tragic boating accident...
