sizing down pictures

Me being the new technology challenged person in the family, I need some help. We got our new Canon A-730 last week along with the high speed card. When I try and post pictures here, they come out the size of high way bill boards, and I can bot get them shrunk down to screen size. Is there a quick and easy layman's way to do this?

Please advise, thanks Bill

There should have been some software included that will have a resize feature. I am a kodak man so I dont know much about the canons, but once you get into the resizeing part, make the pics no larger than 800 pixels wide X 600 pixels tall. I use adobe photoshop, and dreamweaver, but there may also be a service online, but I'm not sure about it.

The easiest way I know of is to host your pics at ImageShack. It's a free hosting service that can automatically resize the pic when you upload it, and you choose what size you want it to be. After it's hosted at ImageShack, just copy and paste the URL of the pic in your post here.

Another option is that there are some programs that include a resizer, like Irfanview, for example, which is available as a free download all over the net. I would think that the software that came with your Canon would include a resizer. Kodak's software does.

Either way, it's probably going to take some trial and error on your part. Just don't give up! Once you learn how it can be a lot of fun!

More fool stabilizer, please.

You can go to and do a search for PIXRESIZE. It is a FREE download and resizes pics one at a time or a entire folder at once. I use it to resize pics for my web site.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

Of your on a PC you can use Paint, it comes with Windows. Open the picture with Paint and then hit Ctrl and W and you'll get the resize window. I do a 50x50 % resize twice and the pictures come out to a nice size to use on the web...Doug

I've found that Irfanview is a good utility for manipulating images. And it's free for non-commercial use.

Thanks to all that have responded. Somehow I will figure this thing out. If I can track down Mack truck parts anywhere in the world, then I should be able tackle this thing also. Never have had a big interest in cameras till now.

Thanks Bill
