I actually don't buy too many fireworks these days, usually just the big artillery shells if anything, but fireworks stores are just extremely cool. Most of them are open year-round, but only out-of-state residents can buy 365 days a year. I'll go in during the off-season when the stores are quiet just to browse the excellent package artwork......

Sounds like you need a forklift to get your order.

Wow! I could spend a crapload of money there!

Our selection here is very (very!) limited... Were not even allowed fire crackers.

In the early 70's there were some kids sleeping in their backyard in a tent. Some neighbor kids threw firecrackers over the fence and caught the tent on fire. One kid died and the other two were badly burned. If memory serves it happened in Edmonton. Soon after firecrackers were banned and fireworks were severely restricted across Canada. That was not the only incident but was the straw.

So they were legal here once? The only ones I've ever seen were a few that my uncle brought back from the States when he was on a bike trip... A couple of my friends and I set them off with great ceremony when we were kids, none of us had ever fired one off before. I remember thinking, this wick will burn slowly and give me lots of time to throw it... Not!

Though that pales in comparison to the time I lit an Estes rocket engine in my hand... That was a really bad idea!

Edit: Found the article on the net Jeff, they were banned September 27, 1972 after the tent incident. Heck, you have a better memory than me! I was only 4 in 72 though.

Sorry for the hijack Planalp, we now return to our regularly scheduled thread...
