What do you prefer

At the permission of the Administrator:

I am curious all. what do you think of this forum software?

I am starting a website forum for my job and I am trying to pick a forum software. I am asking you all because I know that most of you visit alot of other sites. So tell me do you like this software or do you prefer another type.

this is phpBB,
two others are SMF and Vbulletin. I am sure you can figure out wich sites use wich software. LOOK at the very bottom of any page.

If you'd like please private message me.

Thanks for your opinion I appreciate it.

I like this one as well as any I've seen, and a lot better than some I have seen.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

i'm thinking it has something to do with websites that play games with hidden forums and such.

anywho...jason has done a nice job here. not typical phpbb IMHO. i prefer vbulletin myself.

do yourself a favor on the site your building, let all areas be viewed before signing up and allow the search function to be used by a "guest". those are the places that i'm likely to join and participate.

okay, highlight, copy, try and post.

The log out is obviously not a sight specific problem, or it would be more widespread. More of a setting conflict within the PC, and likely the javascript app.

You will be hard pressed to find php forums with the depth of modification as this or some of my others.

As for selective veiwability. it site owners descretion, and it leaves something for the members. its the whole point of coming to the sight to sign up, unless you are ashamed someone might find you there.

I'd go php, simply because of the enourmous amount of resources available, vbullitin is meant for people who dont know how to run a sight, as long as you have pockets for the license fees. But everyone has what they like, I choose php because of all thats availably for free, even though you have to do the modifications and some of which can take some time. Its a very reliable, highly customizable, has a widespread knowledgebase across the web. and aside from all that, it just plain works.

obviously it is a site specific problem. i don't change my computer settings and sometimes this place logs me out and other times it runs smooth. i visit many forums and this is the only one that uses php and the only one that logs me out. there is a flaw somewhere.

again..you've done a great job with all the modifications!! :co022

edit; this time it let me post smoothly. nothing has changed on my pc.

If it only happening on one computer, and there are 494 other who have yet to bring the issue up or mention anythingto the same effect of a problem, then its hard to pinpoint the site. This site is php, but it also run other apps. The world & .net forums are also php based so if it where php causing your problem you would have it there also. Its one of the other apps here that your PC dosent like, its not the site logging you out. just have to figure out which it is and fix it.

i don't use those sites. like i said it only happens here and there was another user having the same problem when the member count was around 100. so at that time 2% of users were getting logged out by this place. look at it another way, at most there are 3 or 4 people signed in here at any one time...so 25-33% of the users are getting logged out. strangely since this thread it hasn't happened again and i have not changed one single setting on my pc...looks like you fixed it.

Having visited the other sites I really prefer this format we have here over them. Just feels right and easy to manuever around. Gets my vote.
