I have made those before but sightly different. Rather than splitting the log. A chainsaw is used to cut lengthwise, not quite through the log's bottom. 2 cuts in a cross or 3 cuts in a larger log works well. The sections are still connected at the bottom. An ounce of a flammable liquid poured in the center instead of the tinder and voila! instant Swedish Fire. Saw it first years ago on TV at a World Rally event being used by spectators to warm themselves in Sweden's winter!
Works great for cooking on too.
