E-Cigs: Anybody Using One?

Anybody else tried one of these things? I've been using a Foos E-Vapor for the past week and am digging it. I noticed they'd become quite popular where I work after they decided to allow them there, although you can only use them in dedicated smoking areas.

I decided to try it as an alternative to smoking, but do use the 16mg nicotine juice, which is supposedly the equivalent of the "light" cigarettes I smoked. I will say, I didn't opt for it as an aid to stop smoking, rather as a means to get the smoking experience without all the cost, mess and smell.

It's nice to be able to "smoke" inside the house instead of standing outside freezing my ass off in the cold and dealing with cigarette butts and my car and clothes smelling like cigarette smoke.

Are they safe? I don't know. Opinions abound on the Internet, but, at 51 years of age and after almost 35 years of smoking "analog" cigarettes, I doubt these things are going to kill me.

They nicely replicate the mechanics of smoking a real cigarette, thus I've had no desire to return to regular cigs since I started using it.

I quickly learned the "tobacco" flavored fluids tasted like shit and I've settled on the Almond flavor. A $3.50 bottle of that will last me a week whereas before I was paying over $3.50 every 2 days for cigarettes.

But, knowing my luck, the FDA will probably outlaw them.

I do not intend to endorse or tout them here as a stop-smoking aid or as a "safe alternative" to cigarettes, nor am I interested in what anybody thinks of my health or how I spend my money, but am curious if anybody else on here uses one and what you think of it.

Well it has to be better then a true cigarette where your inhaling who knows what that they put in. Yeah the news in CO is they want to ban them, and also tax them like real cigarettes.

My best friend has one, he seems to like it. He got it to not quit smoking but to cut back.

It seems like a smart idea really...and you should be able to smoke it anywhere as it's not a REAL cigarette with drifting smoke. You sound like my friend, he never smoked inside, hated the smell himself and stepping out at a Bar to smoke gets old.

Ha! That's government in its purest form: legalize marijuana in its smokeable form (which I have no problem with) and ban e-cigs.

I could live with them being banned for a good reason (say documented cases of more than a few people having some kind of medical emergency due to their use) but would oppose them being subject to a tax like real cigarettes because that's nothing more than an attempt to regain revenue lost by decreased sales of tobacco.

They've been around for awhile and I haven't heard of any widespread reports of people falling ill from using them and don't really agree with banning something because "maybe" it's harmful.

Most likely, any bans will be the result of the devices and synthetic nicotine refill mixes being available to young people who aren't old enough to buy tobacco since the devices and refills are entirely unregulated and as far as I know, anybody can buy them. I guess I can see that. Underage kids still get tobacco if they really want it, but the e-cig nicotine refills are available in gas stations and online and a lot easier to get than real tobacco.

I've used the E-Cigs......to try and quit and to just get by in certain situations. The worst non-smoker is an EX non-smoker......"well I've quit so you should be able to also".....along with the smugness. It's so politically correct nowdays that even E-Cigs are frowned upon regardless of health concerns.

Following is a post I made to ADVrider a couple of years ago.

I do not condone smoking and would never encourage anyone to start. I grew up in another time and place far removed from today's norms.

Gray-haired riders donít get that way from pure luck.

i have been using one for a few months now. i intend on quitting but for now it has cut back my smoking. i never was a heavy smoker, 3-5 cigs a day. but i have switched from reds to lights without a problem so far. so it is helping. i will continur to gradually step down. but i intend not to think about it.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I think they've got like antifreeze or something in them, but as far as I know it won't hurt you unless you drink it........
