Moving to Bend, OR!

I see from the map there's at least one other guy living up there.

We had been looking for a place to move to escape the Bay Area for some time, but were having trouble finding one that "resonated" for us. Somehow, Bend did it.

So with a little luck, I won't have much use for those k761 tires I just bought to replace the previous set, since I'll need something knobbier!

Definitely looking forward to the "off road" being less than 10 minutes from the house, instead of 2 hours.

The adventure continues!

Bend!

Hey Beej,

I live here in Bend, (poverty with a view), Their is a lot of riding to be had in this area, when do you think that you are going to be in the area? let me know and if there is no snow maybe we can go and reconnoiter some of the dirt collection that we have here.

Heya Royce!

That'd be excellent! I would love to start getting the tour.

Assuming all goes well, we close on Feb 14 and move on Feb 22. So March sometime is about the earliest I'm going to be with it enough for an outing, I think.

I might buy some Shinko 244 or Kenda k270 tires for it, to replace the k761 that I have now. I figure if it's more dirt... might as well get something dirtier.

I'll definitely drop you a line when we get there.

sounds cool, I have gone with the Shinko 700 series I think that is the number, and have had 3 sets of them and have not been disappointed at all. looking forward to the ride.

Ah, I didn't see these before. They look like good, inexpensive tires.

Maybe I'll give those a shot. Thanks for the pointer!

I've been through Bend a couple times on the Goldwing on the way to the coast. Seemed like a nice spot. Sure beats the crap out of Burns, OR, a couple of hours up the road. When you first posted I thought you were moving there.

We've been looking for a place to move for about 4 years. We love California, but never found a town that "resonated" for us. Bend somehow did it. Maybe it's just that living in the Bay Area for so long, it's refreshing to find strangers who are friendly by default... or maybe it's the huge number of recreational activities to be had there... or maybe it's the brewpub situation.

In any case, we'll see if Bend can hold our attention for the next 10 years, which seems to be about our limit so far.

On the downside, the job situation there seems pretty abysmal. I'm a telecommuter/entrepreneur, like so many others who live there. If that dries up, I might be up a creek!

I live in the valley and my wife and I are in Bend a couple of times a year for work training. I got my bike 1 1/2 years ago on the way to my wifes training. I trailered the bike over. While she was in class I spent the days riding. I was in the China Hat area and stopped and watched two bucks fighting it out in the middle of the road and two does standing by and watching. That confirmed why I bought a dual sport. I sat and watched for a couple of minutes and by the time I thought about taking a picture they were all tuckered out!

As far as beer goes there is an Old church on the main drag that has a pub downstairs and brew supplies and a couple of hundred beers to chose from in coolers upstairs. It was a beer drinkers heaven. Can't remember the name ,but it used to be an Italian restaurant at one time.

Bought my wife a bike last week for her birthday. Now she is amped to head over to the high desert and explore. There are some pretty cool roads and a lot of hidden caves to explore. Great area to live. My wife and I have always talked about heading that way when we "retire" to take advantage of the riding ,skiing and boating. It is a 4 season outdoor paradise!

Figure out some good rides and you can give me a tour the next time I am over.

Ramsb,

The pub is called the Platypus pub, I have not been there but I know they sell brewing supplies and have 600 different beers to choose from.

It is hard to decide on which way to go when you have so many places to go to, there are the mountains, desert, or just poking around on the forest roads, just drop me a line if you'all want to go for a ride.
