Handguns

Any other people interested in tactical shooting? or just target shooting in general. I am by no means an expert; but getting better and keeping a tighter pattern...

Used to have a Glock 23 (miss that baby all the time); now i have a Taurus 1911 Blue Steel. I Would like to purchase a kel-tec PF-9 for Conceal and carry purposes. Anybody have a kel-tec? I have heard great things about them...

Paper, hate to hear that you can't carry a firearm where you live. Are you a member of the NRA?

Cool, I especially like the black hawk. My wife shot a ruger 357 revolver with .38 ammo a couple of months ago, she really liked the weight and feel of the handgun. I hope to purchase one in the future for us (HA).

Nice collection...

I used to do tactical years ago, with a Springfield Armory .45 1911 style pistol. Currently I carry a Springfield XD-45 14 round mags + 1. These things shoot awesome and are completely dependable. I have my father's old S&W .38 airweight chief that he bought back in the late 60's as his back up pistol while he was a trooper and dective for the KSP. I also have a Davis .38 Derringer I carry most all the time. Yes I do have my Concealed carry permit. I had purchased the XD for use when riding back in the mountains on the KLR, but it is just too dang heavy for that. Think I am going to sell it and look at a baby Glock or even a small frame .357. Yes I have had a Kel-Tec. For what they are, they are a good pistol for carry. The issue I had with it was the lawyer proof trigger. It is a double action trigger only. Not like the trigger of a glock, but like that of squeezing a revolver trigger without cocking the hammer first. It 'the trigger pull' was heavy and sometimes would cause the round to pull off of center mass. On the other hand, it is light, easy to conceal and in reality most self defence situations are gonna happen within just a few feet. If the double action doesn't bother you, I say get one, there is a big forum on the net and parts are easy to get and it is American made. Also take a look at the Kahr P9 pistols.

My card says I am a member until November of 2015
I also hold a FFL 03 Curio and Relic Collector License.

My area has two things that go against concealed carry.. To the north of me it's called Madison, WI and to the southeast of me it's called Chicago, IL...

The voting majority in these cities feel that me being able to legally protect myself is a bad thing.. Both cities have bans on handgun ownership, too..

I do what I can, and am an active member of a very large local rifle club, as well as doing what I can to send letters to my and other political people in an effort to get them to understand that the laws they have and want more of only affect those of us who are law abiding citizens, and the people that the laws are targeting don't follow laws, anyway..

Anyway, since we're all adults and this can be a very hot topic, please everyone keep this polite.. It's a motorcycle forum, first and foremost, and sharing other interests is fantastic as long as we can all be polite adults while doing so..

Springfield Armory, ahhhhh...

A little outside of my price range but fantastic handguns from what i have read and seen... I really like what they do with a 1911. Yes, I like the small frame Glocks too, can't go wrong with a Glock or H&K. So many great companies that keep raising the bar...

I did not know that about IL, I have been keeping an eye on the fight in Washington DC. It will be interesting to see the outcome, especially since I have family members that live there...

Yes, I don't want to get political with this thread, I just like the challenge of tactical shooting and the skill it takes to master the sport. I would like to get into long range shooting in the future. The mathematics involved amaze me; figuring the wind, trajectory, etc...

That's one of my favorite parts of shooting, and I don't get to play the REAL long distance games that others do.. I try to keep my shooting very close to what I'd use in real hunting, so I don't shoot over 300 or so yards. (I'm talking rifle shooting here)

But to be able to keep a 3 shot group at 200 yards within an inch or so is such a great challlenge.. The group can always be better, which is the great part about shooting!! Always a challenge for a better shot.

My latest firearm is a Taurus PT 24/7 in a .40 S&W. It fits me very well and I like it a lot.

I also looked at the sub compact frame springfield XD ( at least I think thats what it was). It is much smaller than my taurus and would work better for carrying.

I'd like to spend more time shooting but the only range I can find is only open between 9-5 which doesn't make any sense to me.

Your in Anchorage and need a gun range? not being a jerk, but would figure you have tons of places to go shoot. pretty much step out back door here and let loose at my targets in back yard.

I KNOW!!!
The problem is that I live in Anchorage.

The town has expanded so that it fills most the space between the Ocean and the Mountains. So unless you want to climb a mountain you have to go to the range. I only know of one. $8/day and last time I checked I was always working while they were open.

The closest non official place I've found is about fifty miles up the road. There are probably closer locations, I just haven't been around long enough or had the time to find them

This is a weird place. Its hard to shoot in town, but I could have touched a moose of my deck this evening.

I do shoot when I get the chance to go visit friends in Talkeetna. Talk about being able to shoot of the porch.

People tell me I can target shoot down on Spenard Rd. after dark. LOL
