Oil By The Barrel

How can a guy go about getting a barrel of crude??? With oil prices at less than $40 a barrel I'm having a hard time paying $45 for a 5 litre jug of T6. Figure I'll make my own.

My Kaw Barn - 2004 KLR, 2006 Concours (sold), 1997 Bayou 400.

hummm,
I count at least six important additives which I think need to be added to the base stock.
They are probably only sold by the barrel also. VBG

First you need to get all the other crap out of it, which is expensive to do. Just go find a pump jack somewhere and open a valve.

I just paid $62 for 5 gallons of it from Sams Club. Looks like they all closed in the great white north ?

There's crude oil right there in Alberta, just not any sweet light crude. I think you have a lot of sulfur after you cook the oil out of the sand.

Once you refine it enough to be called lubricating oil I think you'll have a single-grade oil -- thick when cool and thin when warm. I think of myself as an old-timer but I barely remember single-grade oils.

But sounds fun; I'll be watching.

There is a lot of light sweet crude in Alberta. Especially in the southwest. I live 200km from the oilsands which is essentially surface oil mixed with sand. I have worked in the oilpatch for over 30 years.

That's about $28 CDN and works out to about $7.39 CDN/litre.

We are paying, depending where you buy, $48 for a 5 litre jug or $9.60 / litre.

And they make the stuff 20 minutes down the road from me!!!!

Yeah but they refine it there, and then send to somewhere else to be distributed, and then send it back to you to be sold. They do the same thing in Alaska, everybody gets their cut, adding to the price. Don't agree with it.

Problem with refining at source is how to send out all those individual crackings?
