I'm about 3 hours away from Fort McMurray. The fire will not be put out by human hands. It continues to grow. The only way the fire will be put out is with extended rain, which isn't in the forecast. If you are a prayer person we could certainly use divine intervention. This is a national disaster which will have huge ripple effects as Fort McMurray is a major oil supplier to the world market. A quarter of Canada's oil production has already been shut down. More will be shut down as we move forward. They predict that this fire will burn for weeks. Fill your gas tanks as the prices will soon be going up.

Approx 90,000 people have been evacuated with no injuries or loss of life. The count a few days ago was that 1600 homes and structures have burned down. Imagine a city just under the size of Billings, Montana totally evacuated and being consumed by fire. Homes, businesses, recreation, schools have all burned down. All the citizens left with about 30 minutes warning to evacuate. The scale of this is totally beyond imagination. The fire is now close to 400,000 acres in size or 600 square miles!!! It looks like a war zone.

Alberta’s devastating wildfires continued to grow Saturday as powerful winds fanned the flames, and officials say the inferno could soon reach the Saskatchewan border.

The latest estimates released Saturday put the wildfire at 1,560-square kilometres, a massive stretch of land nearly 13 times the size of the City of Vancouver and 2.3 times bigger than Toronto.

Luckily after burning through Fort McMurray and a small town called Anzac it continued Northeast into an unpopulated wilderness area. Hopefully it doesn't change direction and threaten any more populated areas. It is about 200kilometers straight North of me.

There is also a fire near Fort St John threatening populated areas.
