Question about riding freaks

I see the quote quite often:

"The clapped out KLR riding freaks got together again."

What is the origin and ongoing theme of this phrase?
Obviously it started before I joined, but it doesn't go away.
Enquiring minds wanna know.......

It was quoted from one of the originals here. Theotherbigjoe hosted alot of techdays out here, and used to get everyone going by saying this. He still owns, and rides his KLR daily, but got into fish'n more lately. Here are a couple of pics from some of the tech days...

You guys crack me up sober. More coffee on the keyboard.
It'll be an honor to hook up to tinker n' ride.

The riding group I hooked up with from the HD site would choose a KOA and descend
on some unsuspecting town a few times every summer. I'm even going on the KLR to
Arkansas for it in June and Virginia in August.

We REALLY need to do this!!! Tear up some local RR beds and dirt switchbacks and
such, then sit around the campfire into the nite telling stories and laughing till it hurts.
That's one part of the Harley lifestyle I'll never give up.

Just toss up a thread with a long weekend listed and a location. With these thousands
of members on the forum, ya easily get a group of 20-50 riders who can make it. Maybe
even more from here, U guys really love to travel! I sure do. Another reason I purchased
the new generation KLR. Lotta highway miles. I'll pack my chain lube n' tent and
do a hookup (vacation days permitting) pretty much anywhere in the great 48.

I think we should converge on a small town and take it over. How about Hollister. Then we could make a movie and have an annual gathering there. Oh hell, that has already been done

I wanna ride but my KLR is apart and the DL1000 is 500+ miles away.
