thinking of making a hybrid

seeing ive just moved to colorado and left my hobbies behind (race truck) and wheeling rig and Duece and half behind .. Im stuck without a project ..

Leaves me dreaming of turning a wrench ..

Ive always loved my sportsters motor for its low end torque ..And hated that Harley missed the boat on the whole adventure bike market ..

I loved the old buells with thier massive forks and huge brakes and rubber mounting engine mounts ..

so seeing im also a MMI harley trained mechanic i was thinking of using my spare Klr frame atleast as much as i can and try to combine much as i can to make a fun adventure bike that has monster brakes good suspension and american motor ..

So as i come up with my parts lists and ideas ill keep you all posted .. Winter is coming, its time for some beers and brain storming .

Good on ya, look forward to it as it sounds like a hoot!

just quick google search i have found some really nice versions even one that still looked like a klr up top ..

ill post spme pics of ideas i seen on the web ..

might be easier to find a sportster frame and add my own triple trees and graft a longer swing arm..
need to find that perfect rake for good stability i dont want a dirt bike but a american GS..

Go to the world forum and search Johnwelsy or something similar....he has built the exact thing you are talking about. a Sportster with different forks and longer suspension travel etc......looks deadly!...I'll try and get a pic.....

Here's his build thread....sorry if this is frowned upon and if so please delete it........

yes thats what got me thinking of this build being doable ... instead of a aux tank in the rear i want a imf style tank up front for good range .. I am an Alaskan so ill need it for the type of riding i like to do ...

I had a sporty 1200 custom for 10 yrs there but was nerve racking with 3.3 gallon tank no suspension and piss poor brakes ..
ive tripled my mileage in one season on my klr than i did in 10 yrs of my sporty ..

but i do miss the torque when loaded .

Sitting in my shop i have 91 KLR titled and registered , stripped down to suspension and bottom end ..

looking for a sporty motor and frame now ..Once i get the motor i can start messing with the frame and suspension ..
