One of the bikes I restored.

I've gotten into restoring older bikes, as I find a suitable one. My last one was a 1981 Yamaha Seca XJ550r. That bike was Yamaha's first try at a sport bike, of course it's nothing like what they have now or had a few years after that one, but it does have clean lines and was quicker than what the competition had out. Yamaha had a good idea. they took the engine from a 4 cylinder XS 400 engine and bored and stroked it to 528cc to keep the profile narrow and light, they balanced it for 10500 rpm. top speed was just about 120mph with the alternate exhaust {which I put on this one} Had a really nice sound with the baffle in, without it in, it sounded like a real beast. Granted, it wasn't a corner carver as it did have a lot of frame flex, but it was quick off the line and did handle better than most the other competition. My next project is a KZ900 I found in a barn at an estate sale, $200 for a complete bike that does run. Not too shabby.

The KZ engine imploded on me a few weeks ago, tore a 3 inch hole in the case, I'm looking for a case and do think I found one down in virgina, so that project is on hold for awhile. After the case does get here, it's going to be a summer project , I'm saving, or at least rying to save some cash for my road trip to Moab.

Yea, wasn't the highlite of my day thats for sure, but ...... I have a new plan for the bike when I get the other engine. I'm going to bore and stroke it, and bottle feed that beast. Those old bikes handle for crap in the corners, but I want something that will just totally embarrass a sport bike off the line. I found a guy who will regrind the cams and I can do the porting, found a couple of slip ons on flea bay for the exhaust for dirt cheap. I've even toyed with the idea of putting my spare turbo for my vw to good use  We shall see what happens this summer thats for sure.

I actually have a victim ...er guy picked out already, a kid down the street from me has an R6, nice bike and all, but he is the typical squid. He thought he was a big deal when he smoked my KLR, yea, like that isn't hard to do with a sport bike. He's cut me off a few times and generally makes a nuisance of himself with his yosh pipe, seems to think you need to wind out the tach in every gear even just going down the street. IF this happens, I will be sure to video it. I would like to bottle feed it, but keep it "stealth" Do they make really small nos bottles, something that might fit in the tail section of the KZ ? I contacted a guy up in buffalo that can weld and regrind the cams, he did the cams on my buddies TL1000 and his 1100 magna, very stout and first class work.

Heh, squids. Ran into a group of 3 of them, revving their engines out going up by where I live, no helmets on any of them. They kept smirking at Kermit (My 06 green KLR). I lauged as they were stuck in traffic while I cut down a rutted dirt rode....try that on your crotch rocket boys...

Gunny,

Build it Dude.

I had a worked KZ 1100. It was like riding a rail road tie around a corner but it would get you past warp speed before you hit 4th gear. By the time you hit 5th it was too late to even steal a glance at the speedo. I'm serious as death & taxes man you were going way too fast to look at anything but where you were heading!!!
