I have fallen in love, and got it all over my face...

Back in 1984 I had to let go of this:

The wife and I put many happy miles on that bike, up and down and criss crossing California.

Lately I have been lamenting the fact that there are no really nice, true, middle weight touring bikes anymore. All the stuff that is set up for touring is 700 pounds and 1300cc.

While that may be just the ticket for some, I'm way more interested in something along the lines of the old Silver Wing, the Zuke GS550, the Yammy XJ650. You know, middle weight bikes that you could put a Windjammer and some bags on and go for a weekend.

And then, on a chance visit to the Honda site, I see this:

My knees are weak...

Tom

Did you buy it? Did you steal it? Inquiring minds want to know. And, man did you open yourself up for the worst in all of us with that subject line. But this is a family site. And I am a man of principle.

I asked Karen if she thought this was crossing the line and she wanted me to add: "That's what she said." She has no principles.

Oh Tom.. That's dumb..
http://powersports.honda.com/2010/nt700v.aspx

It's a perfect sized sport touring bike, with an excellent engine, weighs less than 600 pounds, and comes with bags and excellent protection.. It'll never sell..

Tom, I hate you...

I too, am in love..

Please, please, please tell me it gets 16mpg or something.. Something bad.. Please?????

And retails for under 10grand??

I hate you Tom.. I don't have room for one unless I sell my Wing, and that's gonna piss off my passenger cuz she wouldn't be a fan of that back seat..

Now I'm hoping she likes the seat on my BMW..

Fellas -

i haven't begged, borrowed, bought, or stolen one yet. I haven't even seen one in person.

24 hours ago I was blissfully unaware of Honda's treachery, sitting on the couch watching NCIS reruns and pondering the extent of Abby's tattoos, when I happened to surf through the Honda site and BAM!, there she was.

I hope that when I see this bike in person I will find it as hideous as Medusa and that I will only be able to look at it by gazing at its reflection in a mirror lest I be turned to stone.

If not, I don't know how I'll be able to resist its Sirens' song.

Start the negative association therapy now. Every time you look at the picture punch yourself in the face.

This is something like what I do when I see old Hondas. Have to remind myself I already have one. My buddy has four.

The nice thing is that I sent the info to some friends of mine, and they now hate Tom, too..

I'm forever in debt to you, Tom.. I had no idea that bike was coming to the States.. I wonder when?? I was at a big Honda dealership in Madison, WI last weekend and there was no sign or indication of that motorcycle..

I don't have room for one.... Poop..

"Everybody hates me
Nobody loves me
Guess I'll eat some worms..."

I can't help but wonder, and hope, that we may finally get to have some of the European bikes come in over here. Do you think the rest of the big four might follow suite?

I went down to Orange County Honda to see if they had an NT700s.

Nope - but they will in a week or so. They have a red one coming in.

I asked how long they had been aware of the NT700 being in the 2010 lineup and the fella said they'd known of them for about a week.

What I wanted to do was pick the guy's brain on what he knew about Honda's future plans, what he could tell me about the NT700, how many were going to be coming in and so on.

All HE wanted to talk about was KLRs. Seems he's a real enthusiast, owning an '07, so we talked KLRs, touring, mods, shared infinite wisdom and generally established a mutual admiration society.

He's got my cell number...

What happened to my original post? Oh well.

No doubt about it, this bike is top notch!! Shaft drive also... woohoo! Honda very well may have the perfect all around street/touring motorcycle here. I'll be keeping my eye on it and will definitely go see one at the dealer if/when they get one. I've been seriously looking at moving toward a sport tourer and the price and features of this bike are absolutely amazing. I really like how the side bags don't even look like bags, they just blend in so perfectly. It's an amazing streamlined tourer. It's a bike you can ride around town just as easily as touring. Found out it's 65hp which is plenty power for me at least. I'll guess now that I'll have one by the beginning of next summer or sooner if I can sweet talk a deal during winter. You know... "Well, it's too cold to ride, just no incentive right now..." Yeah.. that'll work!
