I'll post up a close up picture of the damaged end of the shaft soon.
But another setback. The eBay shaft is wrong, and one end is a larger diameter with larger bearings. Just going to have to bite the BMW bullet and buy a new one.

We always like watching other people work. We are just a bunch of Arm Chair Supervisors, correct?

Well...........
The simplicity of the KLR is really making me appreciate more.

Wrong parts off of eBay.
Close______________ And yet so far...

And Tom?
Here's the damaged splines on the input.

See, the problem here is that BMW is new to the shaft drive game. They'll get it right soon, I'm sure. Just let them get some experience.

Meanwhile, you're holding the bag...

If I'm not mistaken there is a special grease that goes on the clutch spline and hub.
My 85 K bike owners manual says to pull the transmission and lube the splines every 15000km.
They changed the material in the 1989 K bikes and extended the interval to 45000km.
I use Parker Hydraulics spline lube on mine it has amazing staying power.
I will see if I can find a part number for it.

The grease is available at any shop that sells Chelsea PTO so most heavy truck shops should be able to get it.
The part numbers are as follows: 379688 5/8 oz tube probably all you will need or 379831 14 oz tube.
