getting decals off gas tank

Hey guys i just put my 1992 klr 250 on the road. Really enjoy the bike but im not a huge fan of the pink and blue color scheme. Its just not my thing. Wondering if anybody has any tricks that i could use to get them off. I already tried a heat gun and a razor but i could not get underneath the decal. Any ideas??? Thanks

Are they cleared over?

How long did you heat them for? Mine hadn't been on as long but after getting the plastics hot to the touch they peeled right off. Best 13 bucks I've ever spent at HF for that gun. Could wipe some Goo Gone or similar product (on the decals only) let it sit for a few minutes and it should soften the sticker up a bit. That's only if they aren't cleared over as Aron asked.

Unhappy Clear coat the decals on metal tank

I believe that the clear coat the decals on metal gas tanks so that fuel over flow does not remove the decals/Stickers. Heating won't remove them if they are clear coated.

The decals are clear coated over. I got all of the other decals off of the plastic with the heat gun no problem. Ive been considering replacing the tank because it has a few dents in it anyways if it is cheap enough.
