Question klr650 vs kl650 differences

I recently inherited a 2006 kl650. most of the online literature I find refers to the klr650. What is the difference in these two bikes. What have I inherited? Is it a good bike? mostly off roading? Thanks in advance.

Kawasaki motorcycles have a model number and a model name. The number is the official nomenclature by which you would buy parts. The name is what is on the decals.

For example, Kawasaki made an EX-500. WHAAAAT!? You've never heard of it? Maybe you'd recognize the Ninja 500R. If you're not from around here you might recognize it as the GPZ500S. Two different names, but only one model number.

For the motorcycle named the KLR650 the model number is KL650.

They are the same thing.

A little further info, the model number has a year indicator appended to it. Up to 2005 your KLR would have been a KL650-A19. That indicated that it as an "A" model in the 19th year of production.

Kawasaki made a change in 2006, though, and the model became a KL650A6F. That means it is an "A" model built for the 2006 model year and the "F" means that KHI ****ed up the intelligent numbering convention.

In 2008 KHI introduced the Gen 2 KLR and it was the KL650E8F, so officially the Gen 2 is an "E" model.
