KLR600 '84 WONT START after 9mo
Hello all, im pretty new at this so please bear with me. The bike has been sitting 9 months alltogether and now it wont start. It wasnt in a great state but it always started up with no problems before.
I removed the carburetor and cleaned it following a great 3video tutorial on youtube and im pretty sure i did everything ok. I didnt have anything to soak it in though but i got a carb cleaning spray and compressed air spray and went through everything in detail with both. The only thing I can think of that im a bit suspect of are the two 3-4mm holes next to each other on the carb body - down where the air goes in (slow air intake?). There was lots of gunk in them but i think i cleaned them well in the end. Do they play a big role in starting? Btw i turned the mixture screw out 3 turns, found on the forums thats better for a klr600? Anyway, I put the carb back and still no start.
Then I checked the spark plug, it was dirty and sparked sporadically at the place where it touched the bike when i tried it so I changed the spark plug, got the same one but new.
I thought i solved the issue but again no start. I found a thread online about a KLR where people agreed to try cranking for 30sec or even more if the carb has been just mounted. So I tried 30 + 20 + 20 and nothing, before i would crank it form 5 sec at a time, maybe 10 the most but 5,6 times.
Its a model with a kick starter, I tried turning it a couple times and it feels normal.
There is nothing visible obstructing the air intake, in the filter box.
I have a battery charger and charged the battery to full.
Is there anything else I can try? Would it make sense to try the starter fluid/spray next?
Not sure if I wrote down everything, let me know if you need more info.
Thanks in advance!
