My first KLR...2011 KRL...aka "The General"

I ride The General every day. It's an 80-mile commute, round trip, to work...4 days a week. Including commuting, weekends and my 1 telecommute day, I'm averaging about 60 miles per day on the bike. I've owned it less than 2 weeks, and I'm already up for my 600 mile service.

I could have selected a 2011 that looked exactly like yours. For a few hundred off, I selected a 2010 in the dark red.

You have one nice bike there. Enjoy it.

Thanks. I have been enjoying the heck out of it so far. I went with the orange mainly because 1) it was the only one that my dealer had, and 2) it was a few hundred off. I originally wanted the all black, but I'm very happy with the orange.

Heck, I may paint it to match my 64 Valiant that I'm restoring...Dodge Viper GTS Blue pearl.

Before you paint, consider that your color isn't exactly the most common out there.

I wouldn't paint it...at least not until it gets "well worn and used." And I'm starting to really like the orange.

Hambone,
I disagree with these guys……. I think you should paint it….. A hot orange that will match that sweet bike you have…. HAHAHA….
That would be sick… a Viper blue Valiant with a KLR matching orange pinstripe….

Sweet bike

I'm thinking I dig that RED on there. That would look awsome if the entire bike was that color, nice.

Thanks everyone...I do love the orange. Although...when I went to get my plates yesterday, they had a blue one in the showroom. It was awful purdy!!! I tried to get them to trade.

Hopefully, I'll have my trunk ordered soon, and I'll be set...at least for a while.

I have now owned my KLR for 20 weeks...and I just rolled 7000 miles...7006.1 to be exact. That comes out to be just over 350 miles per week. There have actually been a total of at least 3 full weeks that I haven't ridden due to travel, a hurricane, etc. Using 17 weeks of actual riding puts my average at just over 412 miles per week...which is more accurate.

Over the 20 weeks, I have averaged 51.2 mpg...with my most recent averages being in the 53 mpg range, and my best (and most recent) being 54.1 mpg. As for miles-per-tank, I normally get in the high 230s to mid 240s...with one time at exactly 250. Also, I have not yet spent $500 (total) in gas.

Not too shabby...I couldn't be happier!
