KLR650 dirt bike

Do you treat your KLR like a dirt bike? Take it where no 400lb+ bike ever considered going?
Post your dirty shots and video here.

Thanks, I have my special moments. So no one else takes their KLR off the two track? Or they lack evidence of their adventures?

I've had mine in a few questionable places, but I'm kinda conservative; just got the bike in April and I'm still getting use to non-pavement.

I did recently acquire a '98 KLX300. I've been running it on the dry riverbed (Arkansas in SW Kansas). Having a blast and building skills.

I might throw the 15t or even a 14t sprocket back on the KLR and give it a go on the sand.

Here's the KLX from tonight in the middle of a 15 mile river run (stopped on a land bridge). I was trying out a PVC rack I threw together so I can tote more fuel...

Heck, I think I have to get better tires on my KLR before I'm even allowed to look at these pictures! Maybe a winch too...

Cheers,
Stew

While I greatly admire what you do, no more of that for me. I used to do that stuff on previous bikes, but not on the KLR and not on anything now that I've gotten older and more out of shape.

I'll tell you what, you've gotta be in pretty good physical condition to ride like that. Folks think "Aw, he's just sitting on the motorcycle: it's doing all the work."

You venture into territory and riding like that, if you're not in relatively decent shape, you'll be worn out to the point of dangerous in no time, or at least to the point where it quickly ceases to become "fun."

Let me rephrase that: You have to be in pretty good shape to ride like that even on a dedicated dirt bike, let alone a 400+ pound KLR.

So, my hat's off to you, but those days are over for me. Keep posting these photos, though. They're great.

Nice and a Gen 2. I know a lot of gen 1 owners are skeptical of the extra plastic of the newer KLRs when it comes to off roading. That being said, your bike wears its badge of honor well.

As for more video, I have a collection of videos at the link below, some is of the Strom, YZ426 and 950 se but the KLR still gets some love now and again.
