First outing on the '03

Finally got most of the bugs worked out of it.. so I took a little ride last Tuesday. Only had a couple hours to kill, so it was definitely short.

I ended up putting about 35-40 miles on it. Most of which were on gravel backroads south of town. About half way thru the ride, my license plate fell off.. 'course I didn't notice until later.. required a bit of backtracking..

The first thing I noticed is that toasted Michelin Serac on the front has GOT to go! Damn... Oh well.. new set of 244's sittin' in the shop.

Here are a couple pics to prove I actually rode;

Yessir. Those pics were taken at the top of Jump-off Joe, just south of Kennewick, Wa.

I used to fly around there a lot when I was in the Army: Yakima area, The Dalles, Pendleton, Oregon, Columbia River gorge, etc. Beautiful scenery out there. I always really enjoyed it. I'd love to ride out there. Consider yourself lucky, enjoy and keep the pictures coming!

From a sportbiker standpoint, I already know I'm lucky! I've got Central Oregon in my backyard!

I look forward to exploring some of the asphalt-less roads on the KLR!

mjn, I noted from your signature line that you own a Z50A. My first 2-wheeler was a Candy Apple Red/Silver Z50AKO. I'd love to see a pic of yours if you have one. They've got to be becoming kind of a collector's item by now.

Mine is a K1. It's an x-Shriner bike and is completely original. All I've done to it is clean it up. It even has the OE tires on it..

Here's another K1 that I completely restored. That job ended up being far more expensive than I thought... brought good money on ebay though..

Hey! I think that top one is the actual one I used to have!

Seriously, tho, thanks for the photo. It's hard to find good pictures of these things. Brings back some memories. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who started riding on one of these. Actually, i started on a Briggs and Stratton-powered "mini-bike." Moving from that to the Mini-Trail was like going from a KLR to a Gold Wing.

Nice restoration work on the second one!
