Here's my KLR luggage Project.

http://

Step 1: Laying out, cutting and welding the square tubing together.

http://

Step 2: Mounting the tubular steel frame to the KLR frame.

http:// Rear View of the frame.

Finished project.

http://

Just a brief synopsis of the project. I used inch and a half square tubing and welded it with a MIG, utilizing flux core wire. I then painted all the metal with textured bed liner paint for a rugged look and finish. The steel is a little heavier grade than I would've liked, but it was stock that I had on hand and it's stout! Fun project and it saved me some $ by doing it myself.

The Boxes are Pelican 1520's that I ordered from Boss Safety Products in California (free shipping).

You can! Just go to your local community college or vocational/technical school and take a course in Welding.

I learned on the job and it's a skill that I love to tinker with on projects like this. I've built a truck rack to haul my boats with and many other cool projects.

Get yourself a MIG and some flux-core wire and some scrap metal and go to YouTube and watch a few intructional video's and you'll be on your way. Just don't weld anything structurally critical until you've gotten a thorough grasp of the basics, etc. Have an experienced Welder guide you and critique and all is good.
