Adventure Riding and the Venerable KLR 650

I wrote about my KLR 650 build for OutdoorX4 Magazine and it has published on their website in the link below. I love this bike for its simplicity and can't wait to begin phase 2 of the build!

Great article and pictures. I don't think my rear sprocket was ever that clean - even when it was new.

My Kaw Barn - 2004 KLR, 2006 Concours (sold), 1997 Bayou 400.

"It's a friggen motorcycle, it's not supposed to be comfortable, quiet or safe. The wind noise is supposed to hurt your ears, the seat should be hard and riding it should make you shit your pants every now and then. "

Thanks!! Yeah, I've made it a habit of cleaning the chain and sprocket each weekend. It's such a fun bike!

Loved your write up and look forward to future adventure stories.

But after reading that, I've added a few more things to my list of future upgrades.

Must resist the spend, haha!

Ha! That's awesome. The bike can definitely be like a Jeep if you're not careful where spending $ and upgrading things can add up.

txox4,
I may have missed it, but I did Not see an Eagle Mike Doo-Hickey on your list of improvements.

I'll suggest it be installed before the 10,000 mile mark. Some say, before it ever turns a tire!
