Yep, easy to tell that you got the good stuff! :-) ....Funny thing is that if I was going to make mine a bit more highway biased, the E-07's were on the top of my list. The Cogent goodies, SV brake upgrade, JNS headlight and Doubletake mirrors say to me that there were no shortcuts on this bike! Glad to hear on the skidplate (I was wondering how that got left out! LOL). And on top of all that, you started with a very pretty bike to begin with.

As you well know the Cogent suspension and the SV brake upgrade make a massive difference in how the bike rides and feels; ours would be very similar.

So a Gen 2 seat fits on a Gen 1?

Please do not lecture me on the effects of temperature and density altitude on an internal combustion engine -Thank you.

Yes. The gen 2 seats have an extra piece on them up by the front, just remove it and it fits just like a gen 1.

I must have Hank Hill's ass. The 2014.5+ seat is much more comfortable but my butt was still killing after long days. Now I run with a sheep-skin on there and padded Moto-Skivees. My butt is finally not an issue, not matter how long I'm in the saddle. Thank goodness!

Had a great summer on the bike, took me far and wide and did some really great camping in multiple states. Saw things I never would have seen in a car. Had a lot more fun than in a car. Gained confidence in the dirt. I love this bike!

That's great, the seat on my 03' makes my ass feel like a football team with cleats ran over it. I was looking at the seat cushions from Wild Ass but they're so expensive. What windscreen is that?

It's a Parabellum Rally shield.

The sheepskin is really great, thick, and cut specifically for the KLR seat. It's from Everide, the guy on youtube who made a lot of KLR videos. He was selling them on his website for around $40.


Edit: Just checked and he still has them for sale on his site $45.

In response to this thread, I bought one of Everide's sheepskins and used it on a three-day camping trip around Oregon. Worked great. 8 hours in the stock saddle and no sore butt.

As to the Parabellum windshield, I have the Rally also on a gen 1 and find it to work well. However, I still have significant buffeting at highway speeds, but it comes from air that rises up from the front of the tank. When I block that with my hands, or by mounting a tank bag, most of the buffeting goes away.

Pleased to hear you found butt relief, chirider! Oregon is a beautiful state. I've traveled the coast several times (by cage) but have never been in the south eastern part of the state. You ever ride out that way? Definitely on my bucket list of locations to ride the KLR. Maybe one day if the TAT ever becomes a reality for me.

This Labor Day weekend I made it to near John Day. That's as far east I've gotten with the KLR. I've only been riding for a year.

It was a great ride up the Clackamas River, then through the Mount Hood National Forest, Old Barlow Road (kicked my butt and the KLR bucked me off in the sand), Wamic, Shaniko, Antelope, Fossil, and camping at the John Day river north of the Painted Hills. Next day Mitchell and big loop via Heppner, Condon to a campsite at the Deschutes River near Maupin. Then a ride home via Lolo Pass.

While the ride was 80% pavement, the KLR was awesome to get to the out-of-the-way places in those parts of Oregon. Mine is a 2006 model, red, not as good looking as yours.
