Work Day in Suches, GA! Come all!

Hey everyone! I just talked with Bill Johnston (new owner of old TWO) on the phone and was talking about how me and a few others wanted to come up and help do some work to get things opened for spring. He told me Flux_Capaciter is going to have a 'Work Day' thread/post started on ADV, and so I said I would do the same for us KLR guys!

The way Bill described it, the day will be a Saturday that hadn't had heavy rains leading up to it and the temps need to at least be in the 50s. They do come around from time to time in N.GA mtns. in Feburary! They will watch the weather and 7-10 days before a good potential Saturday, we will post up that the we will try it then. By Wednesday before the work day Saturday, he will make the final decision if it is a GO!

That campground is a special place to me..........I was in college when I made my first motorcycle overnight trip and TWO was our first stop! We stayed upstairs in the Lodge a couple of nights and had a great time riding the area and shooting the bull with new friends in a Great Place! Glad to see it is coming back!

It has to be tough to get everything going for Bill...........I can't wait to get there and help him out some......no matter how little it is in the whole scheme of things. He has a great name in mind for the campground, since Two Wheels Only (TWO) is not available. Without letting the cat out of the bag just yet, the acronym of the possible name is TWoS. I like the potential name a lot, and think it's still close enough that people will relate it to the older name.

Cell service was a little bad when I talked to Bill, but I beleive he said the lodge is looking pretty good, but was hoping to do some work on other buildings in the campground. As I see it, I will probably ride the bike with a few tools, etc. on back!

As of now, he is hoping for an April opening, so I will be moving our Valley in the Sky rally from mid-March to either April 5 or 12. More to come on that later.

I'll keep ya informed about the date of Work Day and anything else! If you potentially could come, throw your name in the pot........

Sounds like a good project. Put me down as a possible. Depending on when the actual date is, I'll be glad to pitch in for a day.

I talked to Bill last week......he said due to certain permits not being issued in good timing, it's going to be after Easter when we have the Work Day. So, April 6 is going to be the first attempt to work and if the weather is not good that day, it will be the following weekend, April 13. So, our first Valley in the Sky rally will be the Work Day!!! As it looks right now though, Bill does not have the permit needed to allow camping, dining, etc.......so unless things change between now and then, we will come in for Saturday only. I'm sure some of you guys coming a decent distance will stay over somewhere.

I'm just down the road from you, in Ooltewah. Want to meet up somewhere on APD40 or on 64 and ride up together? Anybody else going from Cleveland/Chatt area?

I'm assuming you guys are riding your KLRs, right? I mean, I can take a whole bunch more tools in my truck, but the idea of driving my truck to Suches isn't all that appealing compared to the KLR.

OK.......looks like we are going to have the work day this Saturday, April 6!!!! I talked with Bill just a few minutes ago, and he said he really needs help with getting the creek bank cleaned out.....so bring shears, saws, sling blades, gloves, etc. I am bringing my Bear Saw and shears on the back of the bike.....suppose to be a nice day! This work day is being put on by the KLR Community and ADV Riders!

I'll be there in the AM, but come when you can!!

clogan, you want to meet up Sat. morning around 8?
